Are you looking for a way to take the skills you’ve learned at the J-School and give back to the NYC community through mentorship?
Well, we have the opportunity for you.
The Youth Civics Initiative of the League of Women Voters mentors high school student reporters across the NYC area and they would love to have Columbia Journalism School students serve as mentors. The high school student reporters are interested in covering youth activism, gun violence, and climate activism, among other beats. The estimated time commitment for mentoring a student is 4 to 5 hours per month and the meetings with your mentee will be conducted via zoom.
The YCI is holding an information session on Thursday, November 11th from 6 pm – 7 pm est on zoom.
The zoom session is mandatory for all new mentors as they will be covering the responsibilities of the role and answering questions. They would also like interested mentors to submit a resume and writing sample ahead of the info session.
The resume and writing sample can be sent to Jane Hatterer: janehatterer@gmail.com YCI Info Session
