MINUTES IN BRIEF

· SPEAKERS: The Board is going to check on the availability of dates and rooms, and will then start inviting people from out list.

·LAB SCHEDULES: The schedules for the computer labs should be compiled this weekend.

· COMPLAINTS: Complaints about specific incidences at the school should be referred to the University Ombuds Office, as outlined at the beginning of the year.

· WEB PAGE: The Halloween party pictures are going up online. A poll for is available if members want to set one up. A secure server can be had for $25/mo. for online sign-ups.

· HOLIDAY PARTY: The party will be held on Thursday, December 16. Details will be arranged next week.

· DEADLINE CLUB: The club has not been in touch with students for five years, and is desperate to meet us.

· MOVIES: The coordinators will try a week of TV shows in an effort to boost attendance.

· POTLUCK: Dinner will be held on Sunday, November 21. An email will be sent out with details.

MINUTES IN DETAIL

The meeting commenced at 2:10 p.m. in room 301.

ATTENDING: Williams, Maciulis, Dial, Lerner, Kummert, Lau, Banerjee, Johnson, Strozier, Belchak, Gable, Ackman, Kalita, Lee, Lucey, Morton, Rosenberg, Saharko, Sirota.

NOT ATTENDING: Adams, Harris, Olshan, Losciale, Phipps, Das, Martin, Pihl, Haskins, Webber, Yeh, Sreenivasan, Lih. BUSINESS:

1. SPEAKERS: The Board will talk to Dean Klatell about the availability of dates, times, and space for events. Once those have been verified, the speakers committee will begin inviting speakers from the list that has been compiled.

2. ADMINISTRATION: The deans are "looking into" putting the oft-discussed $700 on students' statements. Ellen Lee is compiling the list of times that computer labs are occupied. The idea of anonymous course evaluations was discussed.

3. WEBSITE: The webmasters have the ability to set up online polls if anyone is interested. They can also set up a form for online membership, though to secure the form would cost $25/mo. Anything that board members want posted on the website should be sent to Alicia and Eryn. (aab58, eg363) The Halloween pictures will be up soon, and an announcement will be sent out to the class to encourage visitation.

4. POST MORTEMS: The Deans' breakfast went well, though some complained of the early start time and requested lunch in the future. 149 people voted in the elections for University Senator. Marlene has gone to work as of today.

5. OMBUDS OFFICE: A request had been made that SPJ look into the proper method for filing a formal complaint. Oscar Johnson reported that the Ombuds Office will handle complaints, as outlined at the beginning of the academic year.

6. HOLIDAY PARTY: The party will be held on Thursday, December 16 in the lecture hall. Alcohol, food and entertainment will be provided. Tony will look into how the rumored "Follies" is supposed to be organized. Details will be decided at the next meeting.

7. MOVIE NIGHTS: The movie coordinators will try showing TV shows on the next Sunday night instead of a movie in order to try to boost attendance. Posters will also be placed earlier in the week than they have been in the past.

8. DEADLINE CLUB: Oscar Johnson attended the last meeting of the club, and reports that they would like to see more member involvement. Several events have been planned, including a job fair, and students are invited to all of them, mostly for a reduced fee. Reminders of individual events will be sent out to the class as their dates approach.

9. POTLUCK: The board's potluck dinner will be held on Sunday, November 21. An email will be sent out with details.

10. NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, November 23 at 6:00 p.m. in room 207. The meeting adjourned at 3:15 p.m.
