Jonathan Soma, Adjunct Faculty; Director, The LEDE Program at Columbia JournalismSchool, moderates a panel discussion with data journalists who will talk about the multiple career paths for journalists who work with data: visual storytellers, investigative reporters, interactive news app developers, beat reporters, and more. The conversation will also include useful tips on how to succeed both in data journalism and in journalism in general. You don’t have to be a data journalist to get something out of this talk.

Panelists:

  • Weihua Li ’19 (M.S. Data Journalism):: Data reporter at The Marshall Project who uses data analysis and visualization to tell stories about the criminal justice system.
  • Veronica Penney ’19 (M.S. Data Journalism): Data reporter at Colorado Public Radio.
  • Sawyer Click ’20 (M.S. Data Journalism): Graphic designer at Insider working on interactive storytelling and graphics.
