Columbia SPJ Speaker: Taylor Lorenz, The New York Times

Are memes a beat? How about covering TikTok? Well, if you agree that Internet culture is a big factor that drives culture IRL — well, never fear… There’s a journalist for that.

The New York Times’ new recruit Taylor Lorenz, who just joined NYT from The Atlantic, is a remarkable writer and reporter who focuses on technology and digital popular culture. She’s pioneered the space, covering the rapidly developing digital terrain, the young Instagram stars who rocket to viral recognition and cash in on their fame, and the businesses and trends that use our wired world to connect with young people.

Columbia SPJ is excited to have Taylor Lorenz of The New York Times to speak at the J-school on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 5 p.m. This event will be held at Room 601B and is open to current J-school students. Seats are limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis – so don’t wait: please send an email to Reed (reed.h@columbia.edu) if you’d like to RSVP.
